Good to know
Book internal flights 3–4 weeks out — Avianca and LATAM sell one-way legs cheaply, and flying Bogotá→coffee axis and Medellín→Cartagena saves two full days of mountain roads.
Cash still matters outside the big cities: carry COP for jeeps, tejo nights and park entries. ATMs in Salento run dry on weekends.
Tayrona closes to visitors three times a year for indigenous ceremonies (usually February, June and October) — check dates before locking the coastal leg.
Shorter or longer?
Do the coast: Cartagena → Santa Marta → Tayrona, all overland.
Skip Bogotá — fly straight to the coffee axis via Pereira and drop the Rosario Islands day.
Add the 4-day Ciudad Perdida trek from Santa Marta, or fly to Nuquí on the Pacific for whales (July–October).
